We start off Celebrating The Power of Form by drawing the very first design out of one hundred in the book.

It is one of the most iconic and recognisable designs with its sixfold tangent flower shapes and inscribed hearts on the outside.

It is the perfect intermediate pattern to learn - not too easy but not overly challenging, it is just following each step and enjoying the process.

The traditional Gothic design will be a lovely opportunity to apply an established artistic style, or the chance to venture into a completely new and contrasting aesthetic.

🌟 The Power of Form Tutorials 🌟

I’m thrilled to share my long-term passion project with the world.

Over the past months, I’ve been analysing the geometric patterns from The Power of Form by British architect Robert Billings. To mark 175 years since its publication, I’m launching a monthly series called Celebrating The Power of Form.

On the 1st day of each month, I will publish one drawing tutorial recreating the original Gothic motif. This will include step-by-step compass-and-ruler visual instructions, as well as a draw along demonstration video of the construction.

I have classified these historical patterns into easy, intermediate and advanced, but all designs are accessible to everyone since they follow a methodical and meditative process of layering lines and circles to produce your own artwork. These drawings can then be used as a foundation for exploring a wide range of painting or colouring styles.

The subscription is £3 per month and is hosted on https://ko-fi.com/mathsimum

The first pattern will be released on May 1st and will be free for everyone, so you can decide whether you’d like to subscribe and continue learning with me.

Alongside the monthly patterns, I’ll also be sharing free videos exploring geometric methods and variation comparisons to enrich the broader learning experience.

As usual I will continue to add my other geometric analysis to my existing Ko-fi shop as well.

This is what happened when my friend sent me this picture of a ceiling in a Cairo mosque.

I analysed it in GeoGebra and made sequential drawing instructions.

So then I drew it and painted it for her, and repeated several times to perfect it.

And then I filmed a tutorial, so everyone can learn and enjoy drawing it!
